A number of years ago, while reading a paperback book on a hot summer day, I
read words that perfectly described Marilyn. Before giving the book to a
friend, I copied the page with the descriptions that so moved me. Many times
I've looked at those words; I've long forgotten the title and author of the book
where I found them. I've never forgotten the descriptions -- or Marilyn.

"Her hair looked as though she had trimmed it herself with a child's scissors.
Her shoes announced that she intended to walk in them, that was what shoes are
for. Everything about her spoke of someone who had got down to the essentials
of life."

"...if the smallest cleft opened to let in light, she would be as patient as
only a gifted teacher can be, encouraging enlightenment."

"'What was it she made you feel, with her presence?'
'Well, excited by an idea, of course, or strengthened in your determination to
buck the system, but chiefly, what she made you feel was that you had come home."'

"Through knowing her I became a better person."
