....AND FINALLY IT HAPPENED!

Something important took place on the Massasoit Campus on September 17 that delighted me. There were at least two important events I wish to single out that I will always remember associated with Massasoit. The first being my appointment to the Faculty in 1973 and then what happened on Friday, September 17, 2004.

The Convocation was followed by a Celebration and Dedication of the Marilyn Maxwell Memorial. A modest gathering of Administrators, Faculty, former students and friends assembled in the LATCH tutoring Room located in the Technology Building. I was surprised and impressed to learn that some of the present faculty had been student of Marilyn--even our President. They attested to her remarkable and unique teaching sty that made a difference in their student days. There were others that remembered her generous acts of kindness and love. The thought that came to me after the Celebration and Memorial, as I pondered over this event were lines from Lewis Carroll:

"0 frabjous day Callooh" Callay'
He chortled in his joy"
(translated: a fabulous and joyous day. Hurrah! Hooray! He joyfully chuckled.)

Today there is a room with a plaque remembering the single-handled effort one person fought valiantly for, space-to help student, in academic need.

She was a gracious and modest lady, dedicated to the task of drawing out the best from her students and devoted to her dream-LATCH where those who stumbled on the way to their education could have a second change. She was successful in inspiring many to fulfill their own dreams, some obtaining high degrees in teaching and other professions, and yet others to becoming useful contributing citizens in society with responsible occupations.
