Course Description: This
course will concentrate on the principles and techniques of coaching children
and young adults in competitive athletics.This course will focus on the areas
of philosophy and psychology
of coaching, as well as coaching,organizational and evaluative techniques.
Text: Selected readings provided by the Instructor.
Course Objectives:
This course seeks to develop within the student an introductory level
of knowledge,skill, and appreciation for those concepts identified in the course
description.
To motivate and encourage good class attendance. This will enable the student
to acquire a sense of
discipline that is necessary for successful academic endeavor.
To provide the student with a fundamental knowledge of sports and the role that
it plays in our society.
To discuss and study the concept of coaching and how it is integrated philosophically
and psychologically.
To integrate and develop the students writing skills through the use of
case study analysis.
Method of Instruction: Lecture, discussion,
and case analysis.
Attendance Policy:
A student will be allowed three unexcused absences.The instructor
reserves the right
to consider absences beyond three in determining the students final
grade.
Grading Policy: Three
in-class tests are scheduled. No makeup tests will be given. If a student misses
a
regularly scheduled test, the student must take the final exam as a the makeup.
Students who take all in-class
tests will not be required to take the final exam,unless they feel it will improve
their final grade. Case studies
and two oral presentations will be assigned. Failure to submit these assignments
or present an oral presentation
will result in a grade of zero.
