Overview of Relational Databases using MS Access 2007
(Pre req. Level 1)
This session is offered only by special request.
Did you ever get an important file in Access format and have NO IDEA how to look at it, much less use it?  Did you ever need to extract important information from it but have no time and/or desire to learn the intricacies of a large and complicated program like MS Access?  This session is designed to help you understand the basic concepts of relational databases and give a quick but functional overview of MS Access. The following topics will be introduced so you can become familiar with the concepts, samples of data relationships, database objects, form generation and report construction.
In this session you will:

  • Look at a completed relational database,
  • See how all it's pieces (objects) work together,
  • Learn to run Queries and print Reports,
  • Create a small sample to get a flavor for using databases.

MS Access is a large program that some organizations use to run entire operations.  This session tries to pull in the basic concepts in a concise way without overwhelming the user.

  • Includes four hours of instruction as an overview on the use of an existing Access Database, rather than the development of a new one.

Note:  If you want to learn how to develop an Access database from scratch, and develop a full working knowledge, there are many courses ranging from 4 to 96 hours offered by computer training companies.  Massasoit also offers courses in Access ranging from a few hours to a full semester or more.
