Instructor Degrees B.S. Biology, University of Nebraska at Omaha M.A. Biology, University of Nebraska at Omaha Thesis: Woody Plant Communities of the Iowa Loess Hills: Expansion from 1855 to 2000, Extant Composition, and Ecological Succession Academic Interests I am originally from Iowa and Nebraska, where I studied plant ecology on the Great Plains, specifically succession of prairies to forests and the role fire plays in grassland ecosystems. In addition to ecology, I am also interested in environmental science and evolutionary biology. Other Interests As a supporter of sustainable landscaping practices, I chair the Sustainable Landscaping Committee. To date, the committee has planted two native gardens, removing existing invasive plants and replacing them with native plants that require less water and chemicals and provide habitat for native animals. In addition, part of campus is now a no-mow area, using fewer fossil fuels and providing a rare meadow habitat. When I am not working, my favorite thing to do is travel the world with my husband! When I'm not abroad, I love to garden, play with my two cats, sing and play the piano. Office: S110 Phone: 508-588-9100 x1667 Email: mtrecek-king@massasoit.mass.edu Office Hours: By appointment |
