Office:           S542     Ext. 1618         course web page: http://www.massasoit.mass.edu/
 Office Hours: By Arrangement                                                    faculty/llichten
 Prerequisite:   Biological Principles
 Credits:          4 (3 lecture hours/week & 2 lab hours/week)

Texts:   Human Anatomy & Physiology, 5th Edition, Marieb, 2001, Addison Wesley Longman.
Human Anatomy & Physiology Lab Manual:Cat Version,6th Edition, Benjamin
              Cummings Publishers.
Photo Manual & Dissection Guide of the Cat,Avery Publishers or
The Cat Dissection Manual, Morton Publishers (recommended one per lab bench.)

(Also see Attendance and Assignments policies below.)

[N.B. You MUST pass the laboratory portion to pass the course. Lab grade is based on TWO LabPractical Exams (2/3) & Review Sheets (1/3).]

Course Objectives:
Throughout the lecture section, the student should have a working knowledge of all the topics included in the lecture and assignment schedule. The student should develop an understanding of the major organ systems and their function and position in the human body. The lecture session will stress terminology (spelling is important) while the laboratory session will reinforce lecture material with hands-on opportunities.

Attendance: The student is very strongly urged to attend all lecture and laboratory sessions. Missed laboratory sessions must be made up. Lab Practicals CANNOT be made up.

Assignments: The student is expected to understand all lecture and laboratory materials. If you don't, ASK! Lab exercises should be read before class. Laboratory periods should be used to explore the material NOT fill in the review sheets! Lab exercises will be due the following lab and will drop a grade if one week late, and will NOT be accepted if they are more than TWO weeks late. I urge you to see me or a tutor in the ARC (Academic Resource Center) if you are unsure of any material.

Teaching Format:  A&P is taught with a lectureformat using the blackboard, overhead projector, film clips, microscope television camera, and other audio visual aids. There will be some demonstrations and class discussion when appropriate. Resources and assignments for the course will be found on the course website. We will become familiar with, & utilize material on the World Wide Web in this course.
