MICROBIOLOGY

This is a course in general microbiology
with emphasis placed on the practical applications for medical, food, dairy,
water, industrial & molecular microbiology. Part of the laboratory
experience includes the identification of one or more bacterial "unknowns"
to demonstrate adequate knowledge of the proper laboratory technique. The
subject is approached in a manner designed to coordinate the various
areas of microbiology so that the course is of benefit to both transfer
and terminal students. Organisms of discussion include bacteria, viruses,
fungi, pathogenic protozoa, helminthes & some medically important vectors.
Preequisite: Grade of "C" or better in
Biological Principles or successful performance on department challenge
exam.
Chemistry is recommended but not required.

Welcome to the world of the incredibly
small and facinating. The more time you can spend in lab the better aquainted
you will become with our microbial friends and foes. Lab monitors will
be in the S325 lab some afternoons and lunchtimes. Check schedual on the
door for open hours.
